What I need to do with Smoke Alarms?
As of July 2016, all rental properties will be required to have working smoke alarms fitted to help ensure the safety of our tenants across NZ. Under the changes to the legislation, it will be the duty of tenants to replace any smoke alarm batteries where a standard 9-volt battery alarm is in place.
Overtime as these alarms are replaced with the long-life photoelectric variety, a tenants need to replace batteries will naturally reduce as these types of alarms generally have a 10 year life (roughly) without the need for new batteries during this time.
